Sensa is built on a software product called Home Assistant, the open source home automation platform. The software can be deployed in many ways suitable for different scenarios. Home Assistant has a large following and community and as such there are many enthusiasts who do not wish to purchase a secure, locked down box.

For almost everyone, the answer is simple: the managed Nomad appliance is the right choice. It works out of the box and looks after itself, with no technical knowledge needed. But if you are a Home Assistant enthusiast, there are 2 other options that give you more access, but come with more responsibility.

Whichever you choose, the foundation underneath is the same open, freely available hardware and Home Assistant. The Nomad appliance is deliberately managed and closed so it simply works and we can keep it running smoothly. The enthusiast options hand you the keys, along with the responsibility that comes with them.
