Spec

Choose the Nomad software spec that fits your build. Every spec runs the same Sensa dashboard, includes over-the-air updates, and works fully offline — no cloud account or internet connection required to control your van. What changes between specs is the depth of integration, the intelligence layered on top, and the hardware that powers it.

Three specs, one platform

Lite — a complete van control system

The foundation. Lite is everything most builds need to manage power, lighting, water, climate, networking and safety from a single dashboard. It integrates with Victron’s full electrical stack, controls relays over WiFi and PoE, talks to Starlink and Teltonika routers, and gives you remote access to your van from anywhere. It runs on a Raspberry Pi 5. If you’re building a self-converted campervan and want a serious control system without paying for features you won’t use, Lite is the answer.

Plus — for builds that want richer awareness

Lite plus a layer of environmental intelligence. Plus adds temperature and humidity monitoring, human presence detection, and managed network control via Teltonika’s advanced features. It runs on a more capable Intel NUC, giving you headroom for more sensors, faster dashboards, and the smoother experience that comes with appliance-class hardware. Choose Plus if your build is more ambitious — a fixed install in a larger motorhome, an off-grid build that needs full sensor coverage, or a van that’s lived in often enough to justify a permanent appliance rather than a Pi.

Vision — for builds where the vehicle itself is serious kit

Everything in Plus, plus the features that turn the van into a connected, intelligent vehicle. Vision adds AI-powered CCTV with facial recognition, full natural-language speech control, and OBD2 engine diagnostics — bridging the chassis side of the vehicle with the habitation side, something no other system in this category does. Vision is for owners of self-builds, expedition trucks, vanlife and high-end conversions where the vehicle is worth defending and the system is worth taking seriously. It runs on an advanced NUC, with the local compute needed for on-device AI inference — no cloud required.

What every spec includes

These foundations are in every Nomad spec, regardless of which you choose:

  • Sensa dashboard — unified interface across phone, tablet and web
  • Nomad Modes — scene-based control for arriving, sleeping, leaving, driving and more
  • Remote access — check on your van from anywhere; no static IP or port forwarding required
  • Over-the-air updates — optional, opt-in, signed firmware updates – Works fully offline — no cloud account, no internet required, perpetual licence – Open ecosystem — built on Home Assistant; no vendor lock-in

Vision-exclusive capabilities

The features that earn the Vision badge aren’t bullet points — each is a genuine extension of what a van control system can do.

AI-powered CCTV and security

Connect IP cameras to your Nomad and let Vision watch over the vehicle when you’re not there. On-device AI classifies what triggered an alert — person, animal or vehicle — so you’re notified only when it matters. Facial recognition can identify authorised members of your household, the cleaner, or a friend collecting the van for service. All inference runs locally on the Nomad appliance; nothing is sent to the cloud unless you choose to enable optional remote alerts.

OBD2 vehicle diagnostics

Vision is the only system in its class that bridges the chassis side of the vehicle with the habitation side. Read engine fault codes, AdBlue and DPF status, coolant temperature, fuel level and mileage directly into the Sensa dashboard. Get pre-trip readiness checks before a long tour, automatic service-interval prediction based on actual miles, and theft alerts triggered by engine start when the van is in away mode. Tested against the most common motorhome chassis — Fiat Ducato, Mercedes Sprinter, Ford Transit, VW Crafter — with more added through ongoing development.

Natural speech control

Vision adds full natural-language speech recognition, not just command-and-control. “We’re parking up for the night” can trigger an entire scene of behaviours; “how’s the leisure battery doing” returns a spoken answer. Speech processing runs on-device for privacy — no Alexa, no Google, no audio leaves the van.

Compare all features

Every integration below is built and tested by Sensa as a first-class feature of the platform — monitored, managed and supported. Many other devices and brands will work via Home Assistant’s wider ecosystem; the table shows what’s integrated by Sensa, not what’s merely compatible.
